First responders are the heroes who run toward danger to keep us safe—police, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and more. On Stars, Stripes & Sirens Day (Sept. 27, 10 AM–1 PM at the First State Freedom Store), we’ll honor them with free coffee, donuts, gratitude, and 50% off caps and hats. Across Sussex County and beyond, communities will gather for candlelight ceremonies, memorial services, and a special flag salute at Bethany Beach. As we reflect on the courage of that day and the selflessness that followed, we stand together in remembrance, reverence, and action.

The 39th District proudly promotes the work of the Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI), a Delaware nonprofit dedicated to protecting liberty through fact-based policy solutions in education, energy, healthcare, and the economy. CRI’s upcoming CaesarRodney250 events—The Midnight Ride that Made a Nation with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a live policy forum—blend history with solutions for Delaware’s future. Join the Millsboro Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary on Saturday, September 6th, from 6–9 PM for a Crab Feast at the Millsboro Fire Hall. Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety is celebrating the success of its Sober Rides program, which gave 700 residents safe rides home, and gearing up for the Labor Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Impaired driving remains a serious concern—plan ahead, use a rideshare, or designate a driver. As we gather for community events like the Sip, Shop & Social on August 29th, let’s celebrate responsibly and keep our roads safe.

Join DelDOT’s Charity 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 8 AM, benefiting the B+ Foundation to support children with cancer and their families. Delaware veterans will soon have a stronger voice in state government. Gov. Matt Meyer signed a bipartisan bill creating a new Department of Veterans Affairs, sponsored by Rep. Danny Short (R-Seaford) and Rep. Bill Carson (D-Smyrna). The department will unite scattered services, secure more federal funding, and provide cabinet-level leadership for more than 70,000 veterans across the state—ensuring their needs are heard and met.
