The Seaford Hometown Heroes Banner Program serves as a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. This program is a living tribute designed to honor our community's veterans, offering a visible and lasting reminder of their service and sacrifices.
The Hometown Heroes Banners are more than just a decoration; they are a way for the community to come together to recognize those who have given so much for our freedom. To qualify for the program, veterans—whether living or deceased—must have had a connection to Seaford. This could be through attending local schools, having family ties, or other community connections. Additionally, veterans who are honored on local War Memorials or those recommended by the Seaford VFW and American Legion Posts are also eligible.
Each banner is a personal and proud display, measuring 18” x 36” and made of durable, heavy vinyl. Printed on one side, the banner features the service member’s photograph along with their full name, the branch of the military they served in, and the era of their service (such as WWI, WWII, Vietnam, etc.). These banners are displayed prominently from May through Veterans Day in November, a period chosen to honor the birthdays of the various branches of the military. During this time, they serve as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by our local heroes.
At the end of the season, the banners are carefully taken down and stored to be displayed again the following year. This annual cycle ensures that our veterans continue to be honored, year after year, through this beautiful and meaningful program.
The Seaford Hometown Heroes Banner Program not only highlights the bravery of those who have served but also strengthens the bond within the community, bringing attention to the shared history and pride in our local veterans. It’s a simple but powerful way for us all to say, “Thank you for your service.”
Each Banner requires the Hometown Hero Form to be filled out, a photograph of the Hero in uniform, and are created on a first come first served basis. Only one nomination per person will be accepted. Completed applications can be scanned and returned to seafordheroes@gmail.com or dropped off at Seaford City Hall, 414 High Street.
