Seaford recently celebrated two significant moments in the community—the Seaford Blue Jays Football Team’s state championship and Rep. Danny Short’s 50 years of service to the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department.
Seaford Blue Jays: State Champions
The Blue Jays Football Team was recognized at Legislative Hall for their state championship win. The team secured their 12-1 overall record and 4-0 league record after a dramatic overtime victory over Newark Charter on November 29.
During the ceremony, the athletes and coaches were celebrated by State Rep. Danny Short and State Senator Bryant Richardson, who presented House and Senate Tributes to honor their hard work and success. The victory has become a source of pride for the Seaford community, with many students and residents coming together to cheer on the team throughout the season.
Rep. Danny Short: 50 Years of Service
In addition to celebrating the Blue Jays' remarkable achievement, Rep. Danny Short was honored by the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department for his 50 years of service to the department and the Seaford community. A lifetime member of the fire department, Rep. Short has served in several key roles, including fire chief, and has been an integral part of the team that helps protect and serve the Seaford community.
At the recognition ceremony, State Rep. Tim Dukes and Fire Department President Mark Obier praised Rep. Short for his lifelong commitment to public service. Jim Bowden, representing Sussex County Council, presented him with a County Tribute to acknowledge his invaluable contributions. Rep. Short’s wife, Debra, was also present to share in the special moment.
As Seaford continues to thrive, these examples of excellence will undoubtedly fuel the community's pride and motivate others to contribute to its future success. It's a reminder that the power of community—whether through teamwork or selfless service—creates lasting impact.
