In a solemn and powerful demonstration of community support, thousands of Delawareans, law enforcement officers, first responders, local leaders, and families from across the region gathered on January 5, 2026 to honor the life and service of Delaware State Police Corporal Matthew “Ty” Snook, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on December 23, 2025.
A Life of Service and Sacrifice
Corporal Snook, 34, was at the Minquadale DMV office near Wilmington, working an overtime assignment when a 44-year-old suspect opened fire. In the face of sudden violence, Snook’s final actions exemplified courage and selflessness—he pushed a DMV employee out of harm’s way before being fatally struck himself.
He leaves behind his wife, Lauren, and their 1-year-old daughter, Letty, and a legacy of devotion both to his family and to the people of Delaware who he served for a decade.
Celebration of Life at University of Delaware
The memorial service, held at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware, brought together an outpouring of respect and gratitude. Uniformed troopers filled the arena alongside family members, friends, and community members, all there to pay tribute to a man remembered not for the way he died, but for the way he lived.
Snook’s wife, Lauren, spoke with courage, remembering her husband for his warmth, compassion, and love—as well as advocating for meaningful change and healing in the face of violence.
Community and Leadership Reflect on a Legacy
Leaders throughout the state honored Snook’s life:
Governor Matt Meyer highlighted Snook’s commitment to training new troopers and protecting Delawareans, saying many lives were saved because of his service.
Department of Safety and Homeland Security Secretary Joshua Bushweller and Delaware State Police Superintendent Col. William Crotty pledged ongoing support for the Snook family and celebrated Snook’s enduring impact on the force.
Snook’s own brother shared heartfelt reflections on his moral character, describing him as a role model, mentor, and family man—echoing the sentiments of those who knew him best.
