Volunteer Poll Watchers Needed!

Poll Watchers

With the Indian River School District referendum approaching on Thursday, March 20th, community members are encouraged not only to vote but also to serve as Poll Watchers. This is an important opportunity to observe the voting process and help ensure election integrity.

Why Are Poll Watchers Needed?

Poll workers for this referendum are not regular citizen poll workers but are instead hired by the Department of Elections. Without independent Poll Watchers, there would be no outside observation of the process. This referendum presents a valuable opportunity for the community to actively engage in the election process. Poll Watchers play a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability.

How to Become a Poll Watcher

For school board referendums, voters do not have to be property owners nor registered voters. They must only show proof of residency in the district, which can be a license, or article of mail. OR if the voter does not have either, the voter may need only "affirm" that they are over 18, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district, no proof required.

Affirming
They affirm that they are a US citizen when signing the pollbook if they are registered to vote and on a paper affidavit if they are not registered and not in the pollbook. In other words, the voters self-affirm that they are a US citizen subject to legal recourse from the DOJ should they be found untruthful. - Sussex Department of Elections.

Up to five Poll Watchers may be present at a polling location at any given time.

  • East Millsboro Elementary School

  • Georgetown Elementary School

  • Indian River High School

  • Long Neck Elementary School

  • Lord Baltimore Elementary School

  • Selbyville Middle School

  • Sussex Central High School

  • Millville Community Center (32517 Dukes Drive, Millville)
