
The Indian River School District will hold a current expense referendum on March 20, 2025, to raise funding for operating costs and staff recruitment and retention. With voter approval, the referendum will result in a tax increase of $1.2105 per $100 of assessed property value, equating to an increase of approximately $24.10 per month or $289.23 per year for the average district taxpayer.

Voting will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on March 20. In the event of inclement weather, the referendum will be held on March 27.

District residents who are U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age are eligible to vote at any of the eight local polling places. Voter registration is not required, but residents must provide proof of identification or residency at each polling place. Voters can also "affirm" residency and U.S. citizenship without proof.

Absentee Ballots
Absentee ballots may be requested via U.S. Mail until noon on Friday, March 14. In-person absentee voting is available at the Department of Elections Sussex County Office until noon on Wednesday, March 19. Request for Absentee Ballot forms are available at all district schools. Complete the attached form and submit to the department, either by mail, fax, or e-mail.
Once you submit the form, you can track your status by visiting: https://ivote.de.gov, and signing into your voter portal. You can track when your absentee ballot application is received, when your absentee ballot is sent and received back in our office.
Referendum Information Meetings
In addition to the March 20 referendum vote, the Indian River School District is hosting informational meetings to address community concerns. These meetings will take place at:
March 3: Lord Baltimore Elementary School at 7:00 p.m.
March 12: Indian River High School at 7:00 p.m.
March 13: Sussex Central High School at 7:00 p.m.
